It often develops slowly over many years, and may not cause clear symptoms in the early stages, which is why awareness of risk factors is very important.<\/p>\n<p>Several factors can increase the risk of developing stomach cancer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helicobacter pylori infection \u2013 one of the strongest risk factors. Chronic infection can cause gastritis, ulcers, and eventually cancer in some patients.<\/li>\n<li>Smoking \u2013 tobacco significantly increases gastric cancer risk.<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol consumption \u2013 excessive alcohol irritates the stomach lining and may contribute to cancer development.<\/li>\n<li>Diet \u2013 diets high in smoked, salted, or processed foods and low in fruits and vegetables increase risk.<\/li>\n<li>Family history and genetics \u2013 inherited mutations and family history may predispose individuals.<\/li>\n<li>Age and gender \u2013 stomach cancer is more common in older adults and slightly more common in men.<\/li>\n<li>Obesity \u2013 especially morbid obesity, which is linked to several gastrointestinal cancers.<\/li>\n<li>Socioeconomic factors and ethnicity \u2013 some populations have higher incidence rates.<\/li>\n<li>Long-term proton pump inhibitor use (in certain settings) and chronic stomach inflammation may also play a role.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Early detection is crucial. Symptoms can include persistent stomach pain, unexplained weight loss, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or difficulty swallowing.
