Zen Ibrahim Kamara faces death threat in Kono
Zen Ibrahim Kamara also known as Obai, a businessman in Koidu city, Kono District, was among the three thousand northerners chased by members of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party led Government of President Julius Maada Bio.
Zen Ibrahim Kamara who like others were alleged to have come from the north were targeted by members of the SLPP on the grounds of them being APC.
Therefore, their business place in Kono was vandalised, as irate SLPP youths descended the township a few days after the SLPP was declared winner of the 2018 presidential election. Political intimidation is ripe in Sierra Leone ever seen the SLPP led Government of President Bio took office. There are reports of widespread attacks, mob justice, harassment and destruction of properties of those they perceived to be northerners. President Julius Maada Bio has kept silent on the issue as no member of the SLPP government has come out to condemn the wild and unprecedented political intimidation of opposition supporters. These skirmishes have also been reported in areas like Kenema, Bo and other districts in the south-east which are predominantly the strongholds of the ruling SLPP. Opposition members have been killed and their business places vandalized with some having to run to the bush looking for a haven. The issue of political intimidation reminds me of the ten years of civil war, said Valnora Edwin, Chairperson for Campaign for Good Governance ,a vibrant civil society organisation in the country. She called on the government and the development partners to add their voice to this menace while expressing that situation of such tends to turn the entire country into flames if urgent action is not taken to address it.
The Sierra Leone Police charged with the responsibility of internal security, law and order is unable to address the situation. In Kenema District, police officers were mercilessly beaten by SLPP supporters and some officers were killed through t mob- justice.
This has become the order of the day as Sierra Leone is no longer safe for opposition supporters.
Times SL Easthern correspondent report that Zen Ibrahim Kamara is a well known businessman in Koidu town. He is a staunch APC supporter and because of that his business place was burnt down by irate SLPP Youth who were desperate to devour opposition supporters.
