APC Denies Role in September 11 Protest
The National Publicity Secretary of Sierra Leone’s major opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), Sidi Yaya Tunis, has vehemently rejected any connection between his party and the recent nationwide protest that shook the nation.
Setting the record straight, Tunis stated categorically, “We had no hand in orchestrating this demonstration. We are completely in the dark about the organizers, and this entire situation is completely unrelated to us.”
The APC Publicity Secretary was quick to highlight that the protest had gained its impetus primarily through the widespread reach of social media, with WhatsApp taking center stage as the primary medium for disseminating the call to action.
With an air of calm authority, Tunis issued a resounding call to all APC members and supporters, urging them to remain composed, law-abiding, and above all, safe. He stressed, “Our Party bears no responsibility for the organization or execution of this planned protest, and we remain oblivious to its architects.”
Tragically, the purported demonstration on Monday spiraled into chaos, resulting in the tragic loss of at least two lives. Among the casualties was 50-year-old Alfred Kallon, whose life was brutally cut short in the tumultuous events that unfolded in the heart of Moyiba Community, situated in Eastern Freetown.
