SoCal-UBSSL Offers Scholarship to Schools & University Students
The Southern California United Brothers and Sisters of Sierra Leone (SoCal UBSSL), a non-profit organization headquartered in California, United States of America, has graciously bestowed its highly coveted scholarships for the 2023/2024 academic year upon exceptional school pupils and university students who have demonstrated unparalleled dedication to their academic pursuits but find themselves in need of financial assistance.
During the awarding ceremony, which took place on the 10th of February 2024 at the resplendent Chapel of Peace in Matindi, Western Rural District, Madam Hawanatu F. Bockari, Liaison Officer of SoCal UBSSL in Freetown, presented these invaluable scholarships to a select group of ten students hailing from both universities and secondary schools.
These fortunate recipients were not only honored with this life-changing opportunity but were also bestowed with substantial monetary funds in the form of American dollars. The university students were granted a generous sum of $400 each, while their counterparts in secondary schools were granted a commendable $100 each.
In her address, Madam Bockari fervently implored parents to remain steadfast in their unwavering commitment to vigilantly monitoring their children’s academic progress, ensuring that they maintain the high standards that have earned them these esteemed scholarships. It is of paramount importance that these diligent students do not falter in their examinations, as failure to meet the required academic benchmarks will regrettably result in the revocation of their invaluable scholarships.
Saidu Possible Kargbo, instead of his presence, eloquently delivered the speech of the SoCal UBSSL President, Bunting Smith, wherein he highlighted the organization’s annual provision of financial aid to pupils and students, with the noble intention of assisting them in attaining their aspirations.
He further emphasized that the scholarship program acknowledges the virtues of diligence and perseverance, urging the recipients to earnestly prioritize their education and continue to strive for excellence. In a heartfelt plea, he implored the beneficiaries to reciprocate the kindness bestowed upon them by becoming ambassadors or members of SoCal UBSSL upon their graduation, while extending a special request to those who have already completed the program.
The audience was reminded, “And let us not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices, God is pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16).
Providing a succinct overview, Saidu Possible Kargbo expounded upon the organization’s overarching objective of effecting positive change in the lives of Sierra Leoneans. To achieve this noble goal, the dedicated members of SoCal UBSSL united their efforts and endeavored to make a tangible difference in the lives of the people in Sierra Leone.
Saidu Possible Kargbo expressed gratitude for the privilege of annually bestowing thousands of dollars upon Sierra Leonean students, with the sincere hope that it would enrich their lives immeasurably.
