Deputy Higher Education Minister Propels President Bio’s Big-5 Agenda at STI-Expo 2024

Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sarjor-Aziz Kamara , took center stage at the 8th Science, Technology, and Innovation Expo 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria, to shed light on his country’s commitment to leveraging technology and innovation in realizing President Julius Maada Bio’s ambitious development agenda, known as the Big-5 Game-Changers.
In his address during the expo’s opening ceremony at the Eagle Square, Deputy Minister Kamara emphasized the pivotal role of technology and innovation in driving forward all facets of Sierra Leone’s development initiatives. He underlined that the five core pillars of the Big-5 Agenda—Feed Salone, Human Capital Development, Youth Employment, Technology and Infrastructure, and Revamping the Private Sector—are all propelled by advancements in technology and innovative solutions.
Highlighting Sierra Leone’s acknowledgment of the significance of science, technology, and innovation, Kamara noted the establishment of a new ministry, the Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, led by a young and dynamic woman. He underscored the pivotal role of science, technology, and innovation in advancing education and e-governance, aiming to bridge societal gaps, enhance service delivery, and promote transparency within Sierra Leone.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, Kamara extended appreciation to Nigeria’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Uche Nnaji, for his support and collaboration. He reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to nurturing the longstanding relationship with Nigeria, with a shared vision of mutual benefits and collaboration in the realm of science, technology, and innovation.
The event is sui generis and is organised annually with researchers, international partners, and innovators from different fields to showcase their products, services, and new developments in their businesses. It also promotes interaction and cultural exchanges among the people.
