Bassie Kamara for APC flag: Integrity & Agriculture, key themes
By Edwina Sia Janga
As the race for flagbearer of the main opposition party, the APC, heats up, another son of the soil, Bassie Kamara, a prominent figure in the party, has emerged, declaring his ambition to lead the party to the 2028 Presidential & General Elections.
In an exclusive interview with this medium from the USA, Bassie Kamara was emphatic that his track record of integrity is unmatched in the party, and that he is coming into the race with a clean hand (no excess baggage). He stressed that he is open to any scrutiny of his integrity, and that he will come out clean at the end. He disclosed that his bid to lead the party is not just a spontaneous one, but one born out of love and dedication to the party and a burning desire to change the lives of his compatriots. He revealed that his ambition to lead the party to victory has not changed, adding that he contested for the said position in 2018 and 2023, and that he is certain that he will get the support of the APC this time around, especially as Sierra Leoneans are yearning for someone without blemish to lead them.
Bassie Kamara furthered that his goal is to see the country be food sufficient, noting that the Feed Salone initiative currently being used by the SLPP government was his baby, and that they got the idea from him but lacked the formula and mechanism to go about it, hence the poor state of the initiative. Working at Global Fund in a senior management position, he was instrumental in developing the feed Salone initiative, but the SLPP government failed to get his input, which is vital for the actualization of the scheme, and this has greatly hampered the development of the project. He stressed that if he becomes President, he will introduce the formula and the necessary mechanism for the Feed Salone to work. He stressed that hijacking the initiative from him without his input has been the absent link for the development of the project, and that he will make it happen under his tenure as President.
In respect of integrity, Bassie Kamara maintained that among all aspirants vying for the flagbearer of the APC, his track record speaks volumes of his character, adding that his honesty and integrity had taken him to hold top management positions both locally and in the international sphere. With his knowledge as a former Banker in an American Bank, he has the potential to steer the country out of the economic mess it finds itself. He noted that his integrity, honesty and loyalty to the APC are well known within the party circle.
Bassie Kamara stressed that what the nation needs today is a ;eader that is dedicated, with clean hands and determined to uphold the highest level of integrity and transparency in governance, and this, he possesses. He implored the party to choose the candidate that has a clean record, whose hands are not tainted by corruption and has not skeletons in the cupboard that their rival can capitaplize on. He noted that for far too long the country has suffered under corrupt leadership, which has led to its current economic state. Sierra Leoneans, he reiterated, deserve better, and that he is here to provide that leadership.
