RCBank and NSASL Organise National Scrabble Championship
The National Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone (NSASL) has joined forces with Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank) Sierra Leone Ltd. to present an exciting opportunity for all Sierra Leoneans, with a particular focus on students from secondary schools and universities. This initiative seeks to promote the game of Scrabble and encourage inclusive participation.
A major scrabble competition is scheduled for Saturday, August 19, 2023, commencing at 10:00 am, at the Freetown Amusement Park Hall (Victoria Park). The theme for this event, “BRINGING SCRABBLE TO ALL SIERRA LEONEANS,” aptly reflects the essence of this collaboration.
After a productive meeting on August 7, 2023, between representatives of both NSASL and RCBank, it was unanimously decided that this event would serve as an educational and competitive platform to foster the growth of scrabble enthusiasts in Sierra Leone. The objective is to enhance educational development and empower students through active participation in the game, fostering not only healthy competition but also a sense of accomplishment.
The NSASL officials expressed their commitment to promoting gender equality by actively encouraging female participation from secondary schools and universities.
The NSASL team warmly acknowledged RCBank’s pivotal role in securing Sierra Leone as the host country for the forthcoming African Scrabble Championship in October 2024. Dr. Gilpin, MD & CEO of RCBank, whose personal affinity for Scrabble resonates with this initiative, announced a generous star prize of NLE2,500 (New notes) for the winner, NLE2,000 (New notes) for the runner-up, and NLE1,500 (New notes) for the third-best player. Each of these top contenders will also receive medals and promotional items from RCBank.
