Police Declare Ibrahim Hassan Kamara Wanted

Ibrahim Hassan Kamara, a resident of 8 Mountain cut, , East of Freetown has been declared wanted by the Sierra Leone Police following the August 10 protest which later transformed into skirmishes that claimed lives and properties.
The wanted list was put out after Ibrahim Hassan Kamara was alleged to have escaped through the window when police officers advance to get him arrested.
Times SL Newspaper gathered Ibrahim father, Mohamed Hassan Kamara was alleged to have led a team of protesters on the 10th of August 2022 decrying the high cost of living, and hardship in the country. His house was put under surveillance as the police at the time wanted him dead or alive. Mountain cut is an area dominated by opposition supporters belonging to the All People’s Congress. There was serious tension within the area as vehicles, motorcycles were not allowed to ply the street. At the time of trying to arrest Mohamed Hassan Kamara, eyewitnesses confirmed that he tried to escape using the back door. He was then arrested, handcuffed, and manhandled whilst being taken to the police station. Along the line, Mohamed Hassan Kamara escaped and jumped from the vehicle running for a haven. He was later re-arrested by supporters of the ruling party who were those identifying people of interest to the police. Whilst under the control of the SLPP supporters, Mohamed Hassan Kamara resisted all efforts to take him to the police station. Some area boys came to his rescue and took him home. A few minutes later, a truck with a full load of armed police officers arrives at the house and put the entire house on the search warrant. At the time of the search, Mohamed Hassan Kamara had wanted to escape when bullets were fired at him leaving him half dead.
He was unable to survive it and ended up dying during the course. The police later advance to get his family arrested. His son Ibrahim Hassan Kamara who was inside the house with his escaped through the window. His whereabouts remained unknown. Police have therefore put out a wanted list of him with a ransome of ten million leones.
Up to the time of going to the Press, Ibrahim Hassan Kamara could not be reached for his comments.
Police spokesperson Brima Kamara told Times SL Newspaper that they are just executing orders to arrest all those who have hands in the August 10 protest. ” We did not give them a permit to go on protest and for them to insist on that makes them wanted persons of interest” Kamara started.
Sierra Leone’s 1991 Constitution does not require a police permit before holding any protest. The law states that anyone who wants to hold a protest must ensure they inform the police for security to be provided. This has been the concern of civil society organizations and human rights groups. The August 10 protest ended up being skirmishes that claimed the lives of police officers and civilians.
