Women In the Media Enhance Skills to Promote Peace and Gender in Politics
In an empowering initiative, Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) has embarked on a significant training program aimed at equipping female journalists with the skills needed to document and effectively disseminate project outcomes. This training, a vital step toward strengthening the role of women in the media, is currently taking place at the Vanilla Complex in Aberdeen, Freetown.
Bringing together a diverse group of over thirty female journalists hailing from both the Provinces and Freetown, this training has been made possible through funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) via their Peace Building Project.
The central theme for this comprehensive training is the pivotal role that peace, media engagement, and gender play in the political landscape.
This initiative marks a substantial step forward in ensuring that women journalists in Sierra Leone are equipped with the necessary tools to actively participate in shaping the narrative around peace and gender within the realm of politics. It underscores the significance of providing women with the skills and resources to contribute effectively to the media landscape, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and balanced representation in the field of journalism.
Through this initiative, WIMSAL, with the support of UNDP, aims to empower female journalists to be agents of change in promoting peace and gender equality in Sierra Leone’s political discourse.
