EDSA Staff Scams Apex Bank MD of Le39,000
In a startling case of financial deceit, Samuel Thullah, an employee of the Ministry of Energy working at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) as an electrician, found himself facing Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No.1 on Pademba Road, Freetown. The court appearance on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, came after Thullah was accused of swindling Nelson Salia Konneh, the Managing Director of Apex Bank, out of thirty-nine thousand new Leone (Le39,000) that was meant for the purchase of five EDSA meters.
Thullah is now charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, an offense that contravenes Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the offense, Thullah allegedly committed this fraudulent act between July and August 2023, at No.12 Percival Street in Freetown. He is accused of intentionally deceiving Nelson Salia-Konneh into handing over Le39,000 under the false pretense of buying five Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) meters, which included three single-phase meters and two three-phase meters. Additionally, Thullah promised to perform electrical connections at Konneh’s residence. However, it is alleged that these promises were entirely false.
The accused is currently in custody, and his trial is set to resume on November 16, 2023. Prosecuting the case is ASP Ibrahim Mansaray.
