Gov’t Rejects ECOWAS Proposal to Relocate Ex-President Koroma
Sierra Leone’s government stands resolute in its decision to reject the ECOWAS proposal aiming to move former President Ernest Bai Koroma amidst ongoing treason charges. Timothy Kabba, the country’s Foreign Minister, confirmed the reception of a letter from the ECOWAS Commission outlining plans for Koroma’s temporary relocation to Nigeria.
However, Kabba stressed the government’s reluctance, denouncing the proposal as a unilateral action by the ECOWAS Commission. He underlined that the plan contradicted recent discussions held by President Julius Maada Bio alongside fellow West African leaders and the ECOWAS Commission, hence the government’s refusal to entertain the suggestion.
The proposed relocation intended for Koroma to be transported to Nigeria on January 4, with assurances of dropped charges, allowing him to retain his former presidential privileges.
