Sierra Leone and Kenya Share Experience in Organising Political Debates
The Chairman of the National Political Debates Committee (NPDC) in Sierra Leone, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla While in Kenya for the USAID conference on digital threats to democracy visited one of Kenya’s most outstanding and professionally critical journalists, Linus Kaikai.
Kaikai is the Group Editorial Director of Royal Media Services Limited which owns the popular Citizen media in Kenya and is a key player in the organization of political debates in the East African country.
Nasralla, who also doubles as President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), was accompanied by Mercelline Maroma, a debate specialist in Kenya, and compatriot Mustapha Dumbuya, Deputy Director for African Programs at Journalists for Human Rights in Kenya.
The team had productive discussions on the future of political debates in Africa, shared experiences in organizing political debates in both countries (Sierra Leone and Kenya) including successes, challenges, and opportunities, and the need to work together and collaborate to develop the culture of debates in the body politic of their respective countries, and Africa in general.
Nasralla was taken on a tour of Citizen Media’s impressive facilities.
