Sierra Leone Ministers Participate in ECOWAS Conference to Activate Regional Forces Against Terrorism
A delegation from the Republic of Sierra Leone is currently participating in an Extraordinary Summit convened by the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja.
The primary objective of this summit is for the Ministers of Defence and Finance of the ECOWAS member states to deliberate and agree on a strategic plan for mobilizing internal financial, human, and material resources to support the deployment of a regional counter-terrorism force.
The Extraordinary Summit commenced today, Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The resources, once mobilized, will be used to finance the activation of a Regional Stand-by Force to combat terrorism and address unconstitutional changes of government within the ECOWAS region.
This planned action by ECOWAS, when actualized, aims to counter the resurgence of unconstitutional changes in government and the growing threats of terrorism, which are adversely affecting the peace, security, and stability of the ECOWAS member states.
Representing Sierra Leone at the summit are Deputy Minister of Defense Colonel (Retired) Muana Brima Massaquoi, Deputy Minister of Finance (II) Bockarie Albert Kalokoh, Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for Operations and Plans Brigadier General Amara Idara Bangura, and Director of Budget at the Ministry of Finance Tasima Jah.
