Fed up with the underperformance of some of his appointees, His Excellency has finally dropped his sledge hammer, this time, falling on three officials, replacing them with James B Bio at SLRSA, Tiffa Baio at Immigration and Joseph Sandi at Sierra Leone Housing Corporation. There are rumours that more officials will be unbundled by the President. Judging by the recent outburst by the First Lady during the Kono protest, it is clear that all is not rosy in the President’s team, and an indication that His Excellency is determined to right the wrongs made in making some of those appointments. It could be recalled that upon taking up the mantle of State, His Excellency promised that it is not going to be business as usual, and that he is determined to change the narrative and usher in a new era of development. To achieve this, performance contract was signed with his appointees to ensure they deliver on their respective mandates. Unfortunately, some of his men had the illusion that it was going to be business as usual. Thus, His Excellency’s latest action is designed to counter that illusion and send home the message that he meant what he said. To many Sierra Leoneans, President Bio seems to be on a cleansing spree, purging his government of ‘bad eggs’. Many believe that His Excellency is sending a clear message in his recent reshuffle that there are ‘no sacred cows’ in his government. Like the Krio proverbial connotation, His Excellency is “killing dog befoe dog yai so that dog go know say die dae”. His no-nonsense stance has been welcomed by many, and there are calls for more heads to roll, including the Lands Minister, whose negative role has been in the spotlight of late. As His Excellency continues to take the necessary steps to revamp the image and reputation of his government, both nationally and internationally, Sierra Leoneans are anticipating a new era that will enhance the Big 5 Game Changers of the government and usher in a period of bliss and development.
