The Third Joint Technical Commission for the Reaffirmation of the Sierra Leone-Guinea Border has successfully concluded, with both nations presenting key documents to clarify their shared land and maritime boundaries. The week-long meeting, held in March, was part of ongoing efforts under the African Union Border Program (AUBP) to enhance border stability and cooperation. Delegations from Sierra Leone and Guinea categorized collected documents into three thematic areas—legal, administrative, and cartographic—ensuring a structured approach to border reaffirmation. The process received support from the German Cooperation through GIZ, reinforcing regional peace and security. Sierra Leone’s 16-member delegation, led by Mr. Francis Langumba Keili, Chief of Staff at the Office of National Security, included representatives from key national institutions such as the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Sierra Leone Police (SLP), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Guinean delegation, headed by Mr. Moriba Magassouba, Executive Secretary of Guinea’s National Border Commission, reaffirmed their commitment to a collaborative resolution. Mr. Saa David Leno, representing the African Union Border Program (GIZ/PFUA), commended both nations for their dedication to resolving border infractions. He reiterated GIZ/PFUA’s commitment to supporting the commission’s efforts toward finalizing the border demarcation process. Mr. Keili emphasized that the reaffirmation process is essential to strengthening bilateral relations and ensuring peace in border communities. His counterpart, Mr. Magassouba, echoed this sentiment, urging diligent analysis of presented documents to facilitate a fair resolution. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement on essential documents to guide the reaffirmation process and a commitment to convene a fourth session in Guinea before mid-2025.
