NPPA Staff Faces Wounding & Assault Charges

Amara Salia, a Staff of the National Protected Area Authority (NPAA), on Wednesday 2 July 2025, was sent to prison by Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh of Pademba Road Court No.5 for the offense of causing grievous bodily harm on one Abubakarr Turay.
The accused, who made his first appearance in court, was charged with four count of Conspiracy contrary to law, Causing Grievious Bodily Harm with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to section 47 of the offences Against the Persons Act 1861.
The charge sheet indicated that the accused, Amara Salia, on Friday 28th March 2025, at Lumley in Freetown, conspired with other persons unknown to commit a crime, to wit: causing grievous bodily harm.
The police further alleged that the accused on the same date and place, caused grevious bodily harm on Abubakarr Turay.
The charge sheet furthered that the accused also maliciously wounded and assaulted Abubakarr Turay in a manner occassioning him actual bodily harm.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea taken.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant 5598 Santigie Koroma, requested for a short adjournment indicating that the witness is absent in court and therefore could not proceed.
Magistrate Gbloh refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to the 8th July 2025.
