Justice Ngegba Sends Youth To 8 years For Possession of Kush

High Court Judge, Justice Mark Ngegba on Monday 19 January 2026 sentenceD Ibrahim Aruna to eight (8) years imprisonment after pleading guilty of being found in possession of eighty one wraps of Kush weighing 70.0 grams.

Defendant, Ibrahim Aruna, before his sentence, pleaded for mercy and said he is a Sierra Leonean and it is the law of the government to punish people selling drugs. He furthered that since the inception of the matter, he has been pleading for mercy and is still pleading for mercy, because he knew that what he did was wrong.

The defendant was arraigned before the court on two count charges of unlawful possession of drugs contrary to Section 8 (a) of the National Drug Control Act No.10 of 2008, and dealing in a prohibited drug contrary to Section 7(c) of the same Act.

The indictment states that Ibrahim Aruna, on the 17 October 2025 in Freetown, was found in possession of eighty-one wraps of Kush weighing 70.0 grams without lawful authority.

The indictment further states that Ibrahim Aruna, on the same day and place, was found dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority.

After the charges were read and explained to the defendant, he pleaded guilty on count one and pleaded not guilty on count two.

The State Prosecutor, Alpha Jalloh, on that note, discharged the defendant on count two, which is dealing with prohibited drug without lawful authority and asked that he be sentenced on count one, which is unlawful possession of drugs that he had pleaded guilty to.

State Prosecutor Alpha Jalloh in brief facts before the court, said the defendant was arrested with 81 wraps of Kush without lawful authority and he made a confessional statement to the police. He added that the convict was charged to court based on the indictment dated 17 October 2025.

The defendant, after his passionate plea of mitigation, was sentenced to eight years imprisonment by Justice Mark Ngegba.
