The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) is calling for an urgent investigation into an alleged police assault on prominent lawyer and media trainer, Paul Kamara Esq., at the Adonkia Police Station.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on the evening of April 4, has sparked concern after Mr. Kamara claimed he was forcibly restrained, dragged, and pepper-sprayed by police officers while at the station assisting with inquiries into the death of his colleague, Augustine Sensie Bangura.

In a statement issued a day later, SLAJ described the allegations as deeply troubling, warning that such actions raise serious questions about police conduct, the use of force, and respect for citizens’ rights. The Association emphasized the need for a swift, impartial probe and urged the Sierra Leone Police to ensure that any officers found culpable are held accountable.

SLAJ also called on oversight bodies, including the Independent Police Complaints Board, to closely monitor the process to guarantee transparency and justice.

Reaffirming the importance of accountability in a democratic society, SLAJ cautioned that failure to address such incidents could erode public trust in law enforcement. The Association further urged protection for Mr. Kamara and potential witnesses as investigations unfold, pledging to follow the matter closely in pursuit of justice.
