NASSIT Hosts Employment and Social Security Workshop

The National Social Security Insurance Trust (NASSIT) held an employment and social security workshop at the Radisson Blu Aberdeen Freetown. The event was aimed at fostering awareness and compliance with current labour laws among companies, including Leone Rock and Sub Contractors Limited.

The workshop was chaired by Madam Fatmata Mustapha, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Employment, Labor, and Social Security. In her opening remarks, Madam Mustapha emphasized the need for companies to comply with the procedures set by NASSIT and urged participants to pay close attention to the presentations.

Various representatives from business enterprises and organizations attended the seminar, contributing to the discussions on employment and social security. Mr. David Zibo Konteh, Deputy Human Resource Manager of KINGHO Management, praised NASSIT and the Ministry for their recent efforts.

He highlighted the significance of the Minister of Employment, Labor, and Social Security’s visit to their mining site in Tonkolili, viewing it as a recognition of their contributions to the economy and labour sector. Mr. Konteh underscored the importance of a diverse and inclusive workforce and commended the HR Department and employee welfare committee for their efforts in implementing employee-centric programs.

Mr. Bola, representing the Director General of NASSIT, reiterated NASSIT’s commitment to administering Sierra Leone’s national pension scheme and emphasized the importance of employer-employee relationships in ensuring social security. He explained that the workshop aimed to bridge communication gaps among companies regarding NASSIT’s processes and procedures, including member registration, contribution collection, benefit payment, and compliance.

The Minister of Employment, Labor, and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, addressed the workshop, affirming the government’s commitment to maintaining social security for its citizens. He encouraged employees to remain loyal and prudent in their work to achieve organizational goals.

During the technical session, Mr. Mohamed Bangalie, Head of Public Affairs at NASSIT, provided an overview of the NASSIT scheme. He outlined the legal foundations and ambitions of the scheme, emphasizing their dedication to excellence and teamwork in providing social security for their members.

The workshop concluded with expressions of gratitude from all representatives, highlighting the collaborative efforts to ensure the welfare and growth of the workforce in Sierra Leone.
