8000 Youths to benefits from social safety Net
The Commissioner, National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) Ahmed Atata Mansaray has said that the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment Project (PSSNYE) will provide grants and training to at least 8,000 urban youth aged 18–35 in the country.
He made this statement on Wednesday September 18th during the commencement stakeholder’s engagement on the Component of PSSNYE Project.
The engagement is geared towards gathering a wide range of perceptions and inputs at multiple levels in the implementation of the project.
Ahmed Atata Mansaray underscored that the project supports youth groups involved in existing businesses or those wanting to establish businesses in Freetown, Bo, Makeni and Kenema.
The Commissioner added that the initiative provides financial support and social services to vulnerable population thereby empowering them to be self-reliant.
“The PSSNYE is an Investment Project financing of US$40.0 million equivalent, with an expected project implementation period extending over five years,” he mentioned.
He concluded that the project focuses on food and hospitality, with a focus on eco-tourism; Fisheries, Vegetable and Flower Production; Garbage collection and recycling; and Technical training.
“It is the passion of President Bio to empower and capacitate youths in the country, and I will see to it that it is done accordingly,” he climaxed.
Giving an over view of the project, the Program Manager, NAYCOM, Momodu Wudie indicated that the Project Development Objective (PDO) of the PPSNYE is to improve access to social safety nets and income generating opportunities for targeted beneficiaries.
He went on to note that a total of 8,000 youth will be recruited for training and their quotas in the various urban centres are as follows; Freetown – 2,000; Bo – 1,500; Makeni – 1,500; Kenema – 1,500; Port Loko – 1,500.
The Regional Coordinator, South applauded the initiative, stressing that it will help salvage the already dire unemployment rate among youths in the country.
Representatives from PWDs, DYCs, Kakua Chiefdom and key stakeholders in the engagement process lauded the initiative, adding that it’s a step in the right direction to help youths thrive across the country.

Detective Police Constable Tapia Amara, attached at Transnational Organized Crime Units (TOCU) Headquarters at Hastings, on Thursday September 9th 2024, testifyed before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Court No.1 on Pademba Road, Freetown, about what he did in the unlawful possession of cocaine and others.
He said on the 22nd August 2024, whiles on duty at the Transnational Organized Crime Units (TOCU), a transferred case and enquiry file of kidnapping and unlawful possession of prohibited drugs from the Lumley Police Station containing an endorsed search warrant, statement of complainant, the accused Balogun Mosuro Abayomi the witness Osman Kamara, quantity of white substance suspected to be cocaine in a transparent polythene bag, quantity of dried shredded leaves suspected to be kush, quantity of brown shedded leaves suspected to be cannabis saliva in clinical sachets, one old black electronic, quantity of blue hand gloves and face mask, seven Sierra Leonean Passports, one Liberia Passport book, two ECOWAS traveling certificates, 2,000 Naira, one Samsung smart phone, $ 300, Le 1,500, one damage manual phone and black jeep with registration number LNK-002, together with the complainant and accused handed over to me for further investigations which he tendered to form part of the Court records.
