SLP dismissed 24 officers for Absenteeism

The Sierra Leone Police has dismissed 24 of its officers for failing to report for duty for over 21 days, a breach of the Police Disciplinary Regulations 2001.

In a memo issued on September 25, 2024, signed by Mr. Musa James, the Acting Director of Human Resource Management, it directed that all official police properties, including identification badges and firearms, be retrieved from the affected officers immediately.

‘’The under mentioned personnel are here by struck-of strength from the Sierra Leone Police with immediate effect  for being absent without leave for more than twenty- one days (21) days  contrary to section 26(1)  of the police disciplinary regulations 2001 . By copy of the memorandum , the support officers should ensure that all police properties including certificate of appointment , arms and ammunition and other badges of identification are retrieved from them immediately,’’ the memo stated.

The list includes personnel from various divisions such as the Operational Support Division (OSD) Headquarters, Kenema OSD, and the Eastern and Harbour Police divisions among other tops officers of the police profession.

The memo however urged support officers to ensure that all police properties including certificate of appointment, arms and ammunition and other badges of identification are retrieved from the dismissed officers immediately.

The Sierra Leone Police have sacked many of its personnel’s in recent times mainly for misconduct and some for unprofessional behaviours in their line of duty. In March this year, five Operational Support Division (OSD) officers were dismissed from the force following their involvement with the illegal substance Kush.
