SLPHA Boss Improves Efficiency In Container Handling At Water Quay
Director General of Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), Yankuba Askia Bio, has introduced a robust monitoring exercise to ensure the swift movement of containers and other loveable items from the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Cline Town, Freetown, to their destinations.
The introduction of improved container handling procedures, streamlined stacking systems, and better coordination among terminal operators reduced congestion and turnaround time, allowing cargo to move more swiftly from ship to shore and onwards to final destinations.
Speaking to this medium, DG Bio emphasised strengthened ports security, protocols, and compliance with international maritime safety standards to continue improving confidence among shipping lines and international partners operating in Sierra Leonean waters.
In his sweeping reform agenda that is steadily transforming the nation’s ports into more efficient, transparent, and investor-friendly gateways for trade, the Director General is very determined to ensure the SLPHA marches international maritime standards. His reformation drive has enhanced Sierra Leone’s standing with the sub-region.
With improved efficiency and clearer policies, the ports are increasingly seen as viable alternatives for regional trade, positioning the country to benefit more from initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Mr. Bio’s leadership has focused on removing the bottlenecks, modernising policies, and strengthening institutional governance to support national economic growth. The modalities he has put in place for the operations of the SLPHA have won the admiration of many industrial countries like the People’s Republic of China, United Kingdom, Germany, and many others around the globe.
The SLPHA boss is not only working hard to change the narrative of the Authority, but is also determined to institute discipline in every facet of the institution to ensure that the Authority is more efficient, transparent, and investor-friendly gateways for trade at regional and international levels.
With time, citizens who are very sceptical about the ongoing transformation of the SLPHA would soon realise that they have been misled and blindfolded for their ignorance of national development and progress. It could be recalled that when Yankuba Askia Bio was appointed by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio as Director General of SLPHA, one of his early interventions was the easing of container operations at the ports.
